Whether painting landscape, animal or the human form, I find these seemingly disparate disciplines remarkably similar. The human figure is a landscape of infinite beauty, a visual field of subtleties and exaggerations of shape, color and light. To zero in on the face is a search for an attitude or emotion often hidden. Capturing that emotion allows the viewer a glimpse of shared recognition.
I love mixing media together. Whether it is recycling art or enriching the surface with various textures, each new layer veils the one beneath in much the same way that snow covers dirt in a blanket of innocence. This very process can bring about an idea though creativity may come from anywhere. The unique curve of an object, the simple turn of a phrase, or a flash of color can strike a chord, an idea shines. It evolves and radiates its' power then surfaces. To trust it is the most marvelous feeling, the feeling of inspiration.
And so the process begins, grows and continues.
Enjoy,
Ellen King
